Allow about 60 cm of width per person and leave 80 to 90 cm of free space around the table so chairs can be pulled out comfortably. As a guide: 4 people, 120 to 140 cm; 6 people, 160 to 180 cm; 8 people, 200 to 240 cm; 10 or more, 280 to 300 cm. A standard dining table is 75 to 77 cm high; high bar tables are around 105 cm.
Between 35 and 45 cm, level with the sofa seat or slightly lower. It works well at about two thirds of the sofa's length, placed 40 to 45 cm away from it.
A side table is comfortable at the height of the sofa or armchair arm, usually 50 to 65 cm. A bedside table should sit roughly level with the mattress: 50 to 70 cm depending on the bed.
Marble, stone or travertine add visual weight; metal or glass bring lightness.
Clean it with a dry or slightly damp cloth, use coasters and placemats, and keep it away from direct sunlight and nearby heat sources. Apply wood wax or oil from time to time. Natural wood shows variations in grain, knots and tone that make every piece unique.
